An anti-vice operation by police led to the arrest of a foreign woman suspected of engaging in prostitution at a premises along Jalan Stutong here on Tuesday.
Kuching police chief Alexson Naga Chabu said the 34-year-old suspect was detained at about 1.10pm during Ops Noda, with police also seizing condoms, lubricant, related paraphernalia and a mobile phone.
He said the woman was believed to have used the Michat application to advertise sexual services and connect with clients.
Investigations found that the activity had allegedly been ongoing for about two months, with charges ranging between RM180 and RM250 per session.
The case is being investigated under Section 372(1)(e) of the Penal Code for exploitation in prostitution, which carries imprisonment, whipping and fines upon conviction.
Police are also investigating under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as the suspect was found without valid travel documents or a valid pass to remain in Malaysia.
Upon conviction, the offence carries a fine of up to RM10,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both, as well as whipping.
Authorities said police will continue stepping up enforcement operations to curb immoral activities and offences that threaten public safety and order.
