Two friends lost their lives after the car they were travelling in skidded off the road and crashed into a tree along Kilometer 27 of Jalan Johor Bahru-Air Hitam early Tuesday.
Kulai district police chief Tan Seng Lee said authorities received information regarding the accident at around 3.05am.
The vehicle was driven by a 24-year-old local man, while the passenger was a 22-year-old local woman.
According to initial investigations, the car was travelling towards Johor Bahru when it is believed to have lost control before slamming into a tree on the left side of the road.
“The driver and passenger suffered severe injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement.
The tragic incident has once again highlighted concerns over late-night road safety, especially involving high-speed crashes on major routes.
Police confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
