A 25-year-old man has died after being thrown from a high-speed carnival ride in India when his safety restraint allegedly came loose during a terrifying mid-air rotation.
The fatal incident occurred on May 26 at a carnival in Nalanda district, where crowds had gathered to enjoy a travelling fair featuring a variety of amusement rides and attractions.
According to witnesses, the victim was riding a thrill attraction known as “Tsunami”, a high-intensity ride that spins passengers through 360-degree rotations at considerable speed and height.
Shocking video footage that has since gone viral on social media appears to show the ride operating normally before tragedy struck.
During one of the high-altitude rotations, the man’s safety harness allegedly malfunctioned and suddenly disengaged, causing him to be violently ejected from his seat.
Witnesses said the victim, who was wearing a white shirt and light blue trousers, was flung through the air by the powerful centrifugal force generated by the ride.
He reportedly struck a metal safety barrier before crashing onto the ground below.
Panic erupted among onlookers as the horrifying scene unfolded. Several members of the public rushed to assist the victim, who had been left unconscious after the impact.
Reports indicated that the man was bleeding heavily and repeatedly vomiting blood while awaiting emergency medical treatment.
He was rushed to hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries despite efforts by medical staff to save his life.
The tragedy has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns over safety standards at travelling carnivals across India.
Many members of the public have questioned whether the ride operator had properly maintained and inspected the attraction before allowing passengers onboard.
The incident has also reignited debate over regulatory oversight of temporary amusement parks and travelling fairground rides.
According to local reports and previous documented cases, similar accidents involving mechanical failures, faulty restraints and structural defects have occurred at carnival rides in various parts of India in recent years.
Critics have accused authorities of failing to adequately monitor and enforce safety regulations, while others have called for stricter inspections and tougher penalties against operators found to have neglected passenger safety.
Investigations into the incident are expected to focus on whether equipment failure, maintenance issues or operator negligence contributed to the fatal accident.
The shocking death has once again highlighted the potentially devastating consequences of safety failures at high-risk amusement attractions.
