A woman in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, was caught on CCTV allegedly stealing clothing from a men’s apparel store before returning the items after realising the shop was covered by surveillance cameras.
Security footage from July 28 showed the woman picking up a T-shirt, folding it and concealing it beneath her clothing before walking out of the store.
According to the shop owner, the woman was not acting alone. Another woman was allegedly waiting outside and appeared to be acting as a lookout.
After leaving the store, the pair reportedly noticed the numerous CCTV cameras installed around the premises. Following a brief discussion, they returned to the shop, handed back the stolen clothing and pleaded with the owner not to report the incident to the police.
The shop owner said he initially noticed the woman’s slightly protruding abdomen but did not suspect she was stealing. Looking back, he described the entire incident as feeling “like a performance.”
Two T-shirts worth 400 yuan (approximately RM241) were allegedly stolen. Since the items were returned, the shop owner decided not to lodge a police report.
He also urged other business owners to remain vigilant and ensure their shops are protected against theft.
