22-Year-Old Malaysian Arrested In Indonesia With 1kg Of Meth And 1,089 Ecstasy Pills Hidden Under Clothes

Date:

A 22-year-old Malaysian man has been arrested in Indonesia after authorities allegedly discovered nearly 1kg of methamphetamine and more than 1,000 ecstasy pills hidden beneath a corset he was wearing.

The suspect was detained at Juanda International Airport in Surabaya after arriving on a Batik Air flight from Kuala Lumpur on August 3.

According to Indonesian authorities, officers found 990g of methamphetamine and 1,089 ecstasy pills concealed under a corset wrapped around the suspect’s body during an inspection.

Investigators said the suspect admitted he had agreed to act as a courier for an international drug syndicate due to financial difficulties and mounting debts.

Authorities estimated the seized drugs were worth about Rp2.79 billion (approximately RM793,000) and could have supplied more than 6,500 drug users.

The suspect and the seized drugs have been handed over to the Sidoarjo Municipal Police for further investigation.

If convicted under Indonesian law, he could face between five and 20 years’ imprisonment, life imprisonment or the death penalty.

The arrest comes shortly after another Malaysian, a commercial pilot, was detained in Jakarta over a separate alleged drug smuggling case, while three other Malaysians were recently arrested in Thailand for allegedly attempting to smuggle 87kg of syabu.
