A car salesman has been sentenced to six months in jail and fined RM3,000 after pleading guilty to possessing explicit nude photographs and videos of a nine-year-old boy.
The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Kartini Kasran at the Magistrate’s Court, with the 26-year-old accused, Tan Yean Xuen, also ordered to serve an additional six months’ imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine.
The unmarried defendant subsequently paid the fine.
According to the charge, Yean Xuen was found in possession of the prohibited material at the Criminal Investigation Department office of the Muar District Police Headquarters at about 6pm on June 7.
He was charged under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
Based on the facts of the case, the child’s father discovered that his son had sent nude photographs and videos of himself to an unknown man after checking the boy’s mobile phone.
Fearing the material could be misused, the father lodged a police report.
Following investigations, police arrested the accused at Bandar Puteri in Klang, Selangor, at approximately 1.30pm the following day before bringing him to the Muar District Police Headquarters for further action.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Yasmin Mohd Piah, while the accused was represented by lawyer Fatimah Zahra Azmi from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK).
The case highlights ongoing concerns over online child exploitation and the importance of parental vigilance in monitoring children’s digital activities to prevent potential abuse.
