Crime Syndicate Leader Held In RM6.26 Million Drug Operation

Date:

A businessman carrying the title “Datuk”, believed to be the leader of an organised crime group, was among 291 individuals arrested during Op Gaurus, a large-scale anti-drug operation conducted by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) across Perak, the Klang Valley and Johor last week.

Bukit Aman NCID director Datuk Seri Hussein Omar Khan said the suspect, believed to be in his 40s, is suspected of masterminding a drug trafficking syndicate that had been operating across several states.

Investigations also uncovered the activities of nine key syndicate members who allegedly obtained drugs in bulk before repackaging them for distribution to entertainment outlets.

Authorities believe the syndicate had been active in Perak, the Klang Valley and Johor since the middle of 2024.

During the operation, police seized various types of drugs, including heroin, MDMA powder and liquid, ketamine, ecstasy pills, Erimin 5 tablets and cannabis, with a combined estimated value of RM6.26 million.

Police also confiscated assets believed to be proceeds of the syndicate’s illegal activities, including a Nissan Sentra, Mazda, Maserati Ghibli, Toyota Alphard, Toyota Vellfire, Mercedes-Benz C250, two Rolex watches and RM4,383 in cash.

Those arrested were aged between 19 and 74, with five testing positive for various types of drugs.

The case is being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while asset forfeiture proceedings are being carried out under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.
