Driver’s Gear Error Sends Car Crashing Into Cake Shop, Injuring Shop Assistant

Date:

A shop assistant sustained minor injuries after a car crashed into a cake shop in Taman Berkeley, Klang, at about 3.30pm yesterday.

North Klang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Embol said preliminary investigations found that the incident occurred when a woman in her early 50s allegedly pressed the accelerator after mistakenly engaging the wrong gear while attempting to leave a parking bay in front of the shop.

The woman had reportedly just finished purchasing items from the premises before the accident happened.

“The driver was taken to Sunway Medical Centre for further treatment, while the female shop assistant, who is in her early 30s, was sent to KPJ Klang Hospital after sustaining minor injuries,” he said in a statement.

The crash caused damage to the front section of the shop, with images of the incident later circulating widely on social media and drawing public attention.

Police have urged anyone with information related to the incident to contact the investigating officer from the North Klang District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, Inspector Kishen Raj, to assist with the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless driving.

Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
