Four victims who died in the tragic road accident on Jalan Karak Lama, Bentong, on July 25 have been confirmed as eligible for benefits under the Social Security Organisation’s (PERKESO) Lindung 24 Jam scheme, providing financial support to their families.
In a statement, PERKESO said the four victims — V. Mugilan, A. Kanabati Raja, K. Alaganathan and M. Parathanman, aged between 16 and 25 — were active contributors covered under the Lindung 24 Jam and Invalidity schemes provided under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4).
The next of kin of each victim will also receive a one-off Funeral Management Benefit of RM3,000.
PERKESO said the dependants of the late Mugilan are entitled to an Invalidity Pension of RM562.50 per month, with his wife receiving the payment for life and his two-year-old child receiving it until the age of 21 or upon completing a first university degree.
The family of the late Alaganathan is also eligible for the same pension. His parents will receive RM564.36 per month for life, while his siblings will continue receiving the benefit until they reach the age of 21.
Meanwhile, the families of the late Kanabati Raja and Parathanman have qualified for the Dependants’ Benefit under the Lindung 24 Jam scheme. Kanabati Raja’s parents will receive the benefit for life, while eligible siblings under 21 will receive RM1,647 per month. Parathanman’s parents and siblings are entitled to a monthly payment of RM891.
PERKESO estimated that the total value of the long-term Dependants’ Benefits to be paid to the affected families over the next 30 years will exceed RM900,000.
However, the organisation said three other victims had no active contribution records, while another had never contributed to PERKESO, making them ineligible for benefits under the Act.
PERKESO said the tragedy serves as a reminder that road accidents not only claim lives but also deprive families of their main source of financial support. It stressed that the Lindung 24 Jam scheme was introduced to provide protection even when accidents occur outside working hours.
The agency also urged employers and workers to ensure their PERKESO contributions remain up to date so they can receive protection when needed, while reminding all road users to prioritise safety and obey traffic laws.
