Seremban Police Nab 10 In Major Crackdown On Drunk Driving And Street Racing

Date:

Seremban police have detained 10 individuals, including four suspected drunk drivers and one drug offender, during a large-scale traffic operation conducted across several key locations in the district early this morning.

The joint enforcement effort, involving the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (BSPT) of the Seremban District Police Headquarters, was carried out under Ops Bersepadu, Ops Samseng and Ops Samseng Jalanan from 5pm yesterday until 4am today.

Seremban District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Yatim Osman, said a total of 115 individuals and 105 vehicles were inspected throughout the operation, which was conducted at Jalan Sungai Ujong, Jalan Lingkaran Tengah, Jalan Bukit Kepayang and Jalan Rasah.

He said the 10 arrests involved four men driving under the influence of alcohol, one individual who tested positive for THC, and five others believed to be involved in illegal street racing activities. All suspects were aged between 19 and 30 years old.

Authorities also issued 78 summonses for various traffic offences, with the highest number recorded for driving without a valid licence, followed by expired road tax and lack of insurance coverage.

Mohd Yatim said the street racing-related offences are being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous riding.

Meanwhile, the four drunk driving cases are being investigated under Section 45A(1) of the same Act, while the drug-related case falls under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He added that five motorcycles were also seized under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 as part of the operation.

The police have warned that such enforcement actions will continue in an effort to curb dangerous driving behaviour and illegal street racing activities in the district.
