Government Finalising Work-From-Home Policy For Public Sector, Announcement Expected Soon

Date:

The government is in the final stages of refining details for the implementation of a work-from-home (WFH) policy for the public sector, with an official announcement expected in the near future.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the proposal is currently under review by the Chief Secretary to the Government, who is finalising several key aspects before the policy is rolled out.

He said the initial phase of implementation will not be confined to Putrajaya, but will instead cover selected locations across the country.

Fahmi added that more detailed guidelines for civil servants will be issued by the Chief Secretary once the framework has been fully completed and approved.

While the policy is primarily aimed at the public sector, he noted that private companies are being encouraged to adopt flexible working arrangements where appropriate.

He said many organisations have already continued with work-from-home practices introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic, with some maintaining hybrid models as part of their long-term operations.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had previously urged the private sector to consider similar flexibility, following the government’s move to introduce WFH arrangements in stages for civil servants as part of efforts to manage broader economic pressures, including rising global costs.
