Barisan Nasional candidates and its campaign machinery should focus on securing voter support rather than engaging in political disputes during the Johor election campaign, says Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
The Umno vice-president said candidates must prioritise engaging with the electorate by presenting clear policies, proven service records and a development vision that benefits the people.
He stressed that BN’s approach should centre on direct engagement with voters instead of confrontation with rival parties.
“We must go to the ground, speak to the people and convince them that we are not a party that wants to fight with others,” he said, adding that BN should highlight its track record in Johor.
Johari also said political parties should be honest about both achievements and shortcomings, while outlining steps taken to improve governance and public service delivery.
He said BN is contesting the election to present its ideology directly to the people, not to “sell” it to opposing political leaders.
“There is no need to fight. Fighting will get us nowhere. We must show that we are a political party contesting this election to present our ideology,” he said during a briefing with BN machinery at the Larkin operations room.
Johari added that the public is increasingly weary of political conflicts and prefers to hear about practical solutions and development plans for their constituencies.
He also reminded party members to avoid internal disputes over candidate selection and instead focus on ensuring a strong electoral performance.
Meanwhile, Johari expressed confidence that BN would retain the Larkin seat, with candidate Mohd Hairi Mad Shah expected to secure a larger majority compared to the previous election.
In the 2022 Johor election, Mohd Hairi won the seat with a 6,178-vote majority. This time, he faces Bersama’s Norsinah Abu and Pakatan Harapan’s Suhaizan Kayat.
