PM Anwar Urges Respectful Campaigning Ahead Of Johor State Election

Date:

The expected multi-cornered contests in the Johor state election, including three-way fights, are a normal feature of democratic practice, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman stressed that the priority for all parties is to ensure campaigns are conducted in a respectful manner, with proper conduct and good ethics throughout the election period.

“Whether it is three or even six-cornered contests, this is part of democracy. What matters is that campaigns are carried out politely, with good manners, and without arrogance,” he said.

Anwar said this after performing Friday prayers at Masjid Jameatus Solehah in Pekan Dengkil today.

He also reminded party machinery not to be overconfident despite their achievements, saying a humble approach is important when engaging with voters.

Instead, he urged political parties to adopt cooperation and moderation in reaching out to the people rather than taking a confrontational stance.

The Johor state election nomination day is set for tomorrow, with several seats expected to see intense three-cornered battles involving Barisan Nasional (BN), PH and Perikatan Nasional (PN).

The election is widely viewed as an important test of public support following shifts in the country’s political landscape after the 15th General Election.
