US President Donald Trump said “fantastic trade deals” had been reached with China following high-level talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the closing stages of a major summit in Beijing on Friday.
Speaking while touring the gardens of Zhongnanhai, the Chinese leadership compound located beside Beijing’s Forbidden City, Trump said the discussions had produced positive outcomes for both global powers.
“A lot of good has come of it. We’ve made some fantastic trade deals, great for both countries,” Trump said, although he did not reveal specific details of the agreements reached during the meeting.
However, in an interview with Fox News, Trump disclosed that one of the major agreements involved China committing to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft. He also claimed Beijing had expressed interest in increasing imports of American oil and soybeans.
The US president further stated that both nations had managed to resolve several longstanding issues that many believed would remain difficult to settle, though he stopped short of elaborating on the matters discussed behind closed doors.
Despite the optimistic tone, major disagreements reportedly remain between Washington and Beijing on issues involving Iran, Taiwan and broader geopolitical tensions.
Trump nevertheless suggested that Xi had reassured him China was not preparing to provide military support to Tehran amid growing international concerns surrounding the Middle East.
According to Trump, Xi also expressed hope that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open and stable, with the Chinese leader offering assistance if necessary.
Xi described Trump’s visit as a “milestone” moment, saying both countries had succeeded in building “a new bilateral relationship” based on what he called “constructive strategic stability”.
In a lighter moment during the summit, Xi reportedly promised to send seeds for the White House Rose Garden to Trump, symbolising what both leaders portrayed as improving ties between the world’s two largest economies.
The latest meeting between the two leaders comes as global markets continue closely monitoring US-China relations, particularly on trade, energy cooperation and regional security issues.
