Negeri Sembilan Polls Within 60 Days As EC Gets Dissolution Notice

Date:

The Election Commission (EC) has officially received notification of the dissolution of the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly, paving the way for the state’s next election.

EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said the commission received a formal letter from Negeri Sembilan State Assembly Speaker Datuk M K Ibrahim Abd Rahman informing it of the dissolution of the 15th State Assembly in accordance with the state constitution.

He said state elections must be held within 60 days from the date of dissolution, as stipulated under the relevant provisions of the Negeri Sembilan Constitution.

Ramlan added that the EC will convene a special meeting to determine key dates for the election process, including nomination day, polling day and early voting arrangements. The date of the meeting will be announced later.

The development follows Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun’s announcement that the State Assembly had been dissolved with the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.

Aminuddin said the dissolution was approved during an audience with the ruler at Istana Besar Seri Menanti, allowing the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election to be held.

The upcoming polls are expected to draw significant attention as political parties intensify preparations and election machinery ahead of the campaign period.
