A 55-year-old woman was killed while her 21-year-old son was injured after the Toyota Avanza they were travelling in crashed into a roadside guardrail in Padang Terap, Kedah, on Tuesday morning.
The accident occurred at about 7.35am along Kilometre 8 of Jalan Batu Pengasah, Durian Burung.
Padang Terap police chief Superintendent Mohd Anuar Junoh said preliminary investigations found that the MPV was travelling from Kuala Nerang towards Durian Burung when it is believed to have veered onto the left road shoulder before crashing into a metal guardrail.
The woman, who was seated in the front passenger seat, became trapped in the wreckage and suffered severe injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Her son, who was driving the vehicle, sustained bodily injuries in the crash.
The victim’s body was taken to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, Alor Setar, for a post-mortem examination.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
