Two Arrested After Suspected Stolen Excavator Found In Sibu

Date:

Police arrested two local men believed to be involved in the theft of heavy machinery during an operation at Jalan Oya, Sibu, on Wednesday.

The arrests were made at about 4.15pm after personnel from the Criminal Prevention and Community Safety Department’s Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) unit at Sibu district police headquarters acted on information received.

Sibu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkipli Suhaili said police detected and stopped a trailer lorry carrying an excavator believed to have been stolen.

“Further inspection led to the arrest of two local men, aged 30 and 32, to assist with investigations,” he said in a statement today.

Police also seized the trailer lorry and excavator believed to be connected to the case for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for theft of a motor vehicle.

If convicted, offenders face imprisonment of between one and seven years and may also be fined.

Zulkipli also thanked members of the public who provided information to police, saying their cooperation helped authorities track down and arrest the suspects.
