Residents gathered in large numbers hoping to spot “lucky numbers” following a frightening late-night incident in which a massive king cobra, measuring over three metres, slithered into a home before being captured and released by rescue teams.
The incident, which took place on April 22, 2026, prompted an emergency response from Sawang Kamphaeng Phet rescue units, including teams from Khlong Lan and Pang Sila Thong, alongside medical responders from the Khlong Lan Phatthana Subdistrict Municipality after receiving reports of a dangerous reptile inside a residence.
Authorities were dispatched to a house at No. 88, Moo 21, in Khlong Lan Phatthana, Kamphaeng Phet, owned by Suntharaphon Phoolsawat, 47, and Phasakorn Mongkhunthod, 54. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male king cobra, approximately 3.10 metres long, hiding within the premises.
The snake was successfully captured within 10 minutes using specialised equipment before being safely released back into its natural habitat, in line with standard wildlife handling procedures.
Officials have since issued a reminder for the public to remain cautious, particularly during nighttime or in areas close to forests and water sources. They stressed that individuals should not attempt to catch reptiles themselves, warning that misjudging a snake’s danger could result in serious injury.
According to the homeowner, the terrifying ordeal began when her son noticed the snake entering from the backyard. Startled by the presence of people, the cobra reportedly tried to escape and ended up hiding inside the house, prompting the family to call for help.
“We couldn’t locate it at first, so we contacted rescue services immediately. I never expected it to be that large. I was completely shocked when I saw it,” she said.
