20-Year-Old Driver Flees After Fatal Crash With Elderly Motorcyclist In Klang

A young driver who allegedly fled the scene after crashing into and killing an elderly motorcyclist in Klang was arrested just hours after the incident.

The accident happened at around 11.40pm along Lorong Haji Musran, Kampung Rantau Panjang, when the 79-year-old victim suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 20-year-old driver later surrendered himself at the Klang Utara District Police Headquarters at approximately 2am after police tracked down the vehicle owner at a house in Telok Gadong.

North Klang district police chief S. Vijaya Rao said initial investigations found that the suspect was driving from Jalan Shahpadu Lama towards Jalan Rantau Panjang when he allegedly lost control of the car.

The vehicle is believed to have veered into the opposite lane before colliding head-on with the motorcycle ridden by the elderly victim.

“As a result of the crash, the motorcyclist suffered severe head injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene,” he said in a statement today.

The victim’s body was later sent to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah for a post-mortem examination.

Police also revealed that preliminary urine tests conducted on the suspect returned negative for drugs. The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Authorities are urging members of the public with information about the incident to contact investigating officer Inspector Ahmad Fadzli Abdullah or visit the nearest police station.

Earlier, footage of the fatal crash went viral on social media after CCTV recordings from a nearby grocery shop began circulating online, drawing widespread attention from netizens.
