A man was killed while six others suffered injuries in a serious road accident involving two vehicles near Tasek Temoh heading towards Tapah early Wednesday morning.
Assistant Director of Operations for the Perak Fire and Rescue Department, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said authorities received an emergency call regarding the incident at around 2.39am.
The crash involved a Proton Saga FLX and a Chevrolet multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), with both vehicles believed to have collided head-on while travelling in opposite directions.
“When the rescue team arrived at the scene, seven victims were found injured in the accident,” he said in a statement today.
According to him, the Proton Saga was carrying two Chinese men. One of them, aged 40, suffered severe injuries, while the other victim, aged 29, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical officers from the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
Meanwhile, five victims travelling in the Chevrolet MPV also sustained injuries in the crash.
Two Malay men aged 66 and 55 were reported to be seriously injured, while two women aged 25 and 19 also suffered severe injuries. Another woman, aged 28, escaped with minor injuries.
Sabarodzi said rescue personnel faced heavy traffic congestion while rushing to the accident scene before immediately carrying out rescue operations using specialised cutting equipment to free trapped victims from the wreckage.
Emergency responders applied the SAVER rescue concept and used stretchers to safely remove those trapped inside the vehicles.
He added that one critically injured victim and another with minor injuries were rushed to hospital using the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle before ambulances arrived.
The remaining four seriously injured victims later received initial treatment from Health Ministry medical personnel before being transported to hospital by ambulances from the ministry and the Civil Defence Force.
The body of the deceased victim was later handed over to police for further action.
