A mother in Queensland experienced a terrifying ordeal after a group of teenagers stole her car with her sleeping two-month-old baby still strapped inside.
The incident happened in Townsville on Monday when Sarah was cleaning her vehicle in her driveway before the car was suddenly driven away by a group of youths.
CCTV footage captured the dramatic moment the distressed mother sprinted after the stolen Isuzu D-Max as it sped down the street with her infant still in the back seat.
In a shocking twist, the vehicle stopped a short distance away, where one of the suspects gently placed the baby carrier and the mother’s phone on the kerb before the group fled the scene.
Despite the frightening incident, the infant was later found unharmed and still asleep in the car seat, and was quickly reunited with the mother.
Sarah described the experience as the most terrifying moment of her life, saying she feared the worst while watching the vehicle drive away with her child inside.
She later said she believed the thieves were “gentle” in handling the baby during the incident, although the situation left her deeply shaken and emotionally distressed.
Queensland Police confirmed that multiple arrests have since been made, including teenagers and young adults, as investigations continue into a wider series of alleged vehicle thefts.
Authorities also said several stolen vehicles were recovered during the operation, while one car linked to the suspects was found burnt out.
Police added that no one was physically injured, and the baby was assessed as a precaution by paramedics following the ordeal.
The case remains under investigation as the accused individuals face proceedings in court.
