A police officer and two personnel were detained during a raid at entertainment outlets in Ipoh, Perak, with two of them found to have tested positive for drugs.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) Director, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, said the operation was carried out on April 5 at two entertainment premises in Bandar Baru Medan Ipoh and Taman Ipoh. The raid forms part of ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse in nightlife hotspots.
Inspections at the second premises revealed that 87 patrons, aged between 19 and 52, tested positive for drugs. The scale of the findings has raised concerns over the prevalence of substance abuse in such venues.
“Also inspected during the raid were a police officer and two personnel who were at the premises for leisure. Two of the personnel tested positive for drugs,” he said.
Hussein added that the two personnel, holding the ranks of corporal and lance corporal, are aged 26 and 40 and are stationed in Johor. The corporal tested positive for ketamine, while the other personnel tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine, and ketamine.
The police officer, who is based in Perak, tested negative for drugs. Authorities emphasised that enforcement actions apply equally to all individuals regardless of position.
A total of 59 men and 28 women were detained to assist investigations under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Hussein stressed that the police will not compromise on any offences, including those involving its own personnel.
